這首歌是曾為披頭四合唱團(The Beetles)成員的約翰藍儂(John Lennon)和太太小野洋子(Yoko Ono)於一九七一年十月二十八日晚間在紐約住的飯店房間裡寫成，二十九日早上即進錄­音室錄製完成。當初這首­歌是為反越戰而創作的，卻意外成為聖誕節慶的名曲。一九九八年，席琳狄翁(Célin­e Dion)又重新錄製了這首歌，納入在該年的個人聖誕專輯裡。
